Substance Abuse Assessments

The judicial system knows that incarceration is not a catch all remedy to criminal activity. Some offenders are not a threat to society — they are a threat to themselves. Court-ordered rehab is designed to rehabilitate people who are struggling with an addiction that is directly impacting their ability to be a productive member of society. This can be committing crimes or possibly endangering the welfare of others. Substance abuse assessments are used to determine if the offender is adhering to the program.

There are eligibility requirements that come with the court order. The offender usually has to successfully complete the rehab in order to satisfy the sentence requirement. The required administration of the assessment is monitored by the psychotherapist. This involves questions that identify warning signs for abuse, and in some cases, drug testing.
